The World of Malvasia is an international Malvasia competition that has been held since 2009 in the organization of Vinistra – the association of winegrowers and winemakers of Istria, and under the auspices of the Istrian County. This eno event is the result of global trends in the production and consumption of wines produced from indigenous wine varieties that have a strong connection with the territory in which they thrive, and are produced in limited quantities.
The goal of the Malvasia World competition is:
- gather as many varieties of Malvasia as possible
- to promote the peculiarities and qualities of different varieties of Malvasia
- show the latest trends in Malvasia production
- reward the best wines
The commissions that evaluate the samples received for the competition consist of top domestic and international experts who evaluate wines according to the strict provisions of the competition regulations harmonized with the provisions of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). The wish of the organizers of this competition is that in the future Istria becomes a central place for producers, consumers and experts interested in this variety, which has gained its fame among wine connoisseurs in the distant past.
The 2022 edition was held from the 5th to 8th April 2022 at the Parentium Plava Laguna in Poreฤ, Croatia.
